A rare nesting pair of bald eagles has settled in along the Fox River in Lake County, much to the delight of nature lovers.

Their nest is in a dead tree about 70 feet above the water.

According to our news partners at the Daily Herald, the nest is believed to be one of five active bald eagle nests in the Chicago area and the second in Lake County.

Bald eagles have a wingspan that can reach eight feet. The bald eagle was designated the national bird back in 1782.
