Indianapolis man wants TSA to apologize for grandfather's spilled ashes

June 26, 2012 (INDIANAPOLIS)

When Mario Marcaletti died in 2002 family members divided his remains. His grandson John Gross says during a recent visit with relatives in Florida he was offered some of his grandfather's ashes.

At the airport in Orlando, Gross says a TSA agent opened the container holding the remains, though she was not supposed to. Then she spilled some of them.

"She didn't apologize. She started laughing," said Gross. "I was on my hands and knees picking up bone fragments. I couldn't pick up everything that was lost. There was a long line behind me."

A spokesperson tells an Indianapolis TV station that the TSA is investigating. According to the agency's website, remains should be examined by an x-ray machine.
