The Chicago Public Schools board is holding its first meeting Wednesday since the teachers union voted to authorize a strike.

Parents and teachers rallied outside school board headquarters. The teachers are battling the mayor's attempt to lengthen the school day starting this fall, and they are fighting for a pay increase to reflect the increased time that will be spent at work.

Earlier this month, teachers voted overwhelmingly to give authorization for a strike if contract talks don't produce an agreement.
