Court building named for retired judge George Leighton

The Cook County Criminal Court Building was named in honor of Judge George Leighton on Friday.

Judge Leighton, 99, was at the ceremony. He served in courts on the county, state, and federal level. He retired from the U.S. District Court in 1987.

In addition to his long career on the bench, Leighton served as an NAACP Chicago branch president and general counsel.
