More vitamin D may help depression

June 29, 2012 (CHICAGO)

New research suggests people with mood disorders can improve their condition when they increase vitamin D.

The small study looked at three women who suffered from moderate to severe depression. They also suffered from low levels of vitamin D.

They took vitamin D pills for eight to 12 weeks to restore their levels to normal. Researchers say after treatment, their depression improved.

This understanding could lead to better treatments for depression

More on this research will be reported this weekend at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting in Houston.
