Tribune: Quinn to use prison savings to offset DCFS budget cut

Governor Pat Quinn intends to use funds saved by closing prisons to make up for a budget cut to the Department of Children and Family Services, according to a published report.

The governor's office confirmed Friday a report by the Chicago Tribune.

The report said Quinn says he will veto spending allocated by lawmakers to some prisons he intends to shut down.

Barring Quinn's action, DCFS could see cuts to about 12 percent of its workforce and could also see eliminations of contracts providing services, according to the report.
