Garfield Park Conservatory shines artistic light on hail damage

July 03, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Garfield Park Conservatory is looking at recent hail damage in new light- thanks to a new art exhibit.

Last year, a hail storm struck the conservatory causing shards of glass to rain down on the plants and vegetation inside. The storm shattered 60 percent of the facility's glass panel roofing.

Those shards of glass inspired Art Institute of Chicago graduate Annette Elliot to create a light installation representing the damage which is projected onto the Garfield Park Conservatory's dome.

The exhibit takes place on June 30 through July 7 from sunset to sunrise.

The conservatory is still in the rebuilding process and is looking for donations for their "One Pane at a Time" campaign. For more information you can visit the Garfield Park Conservatory's website www.garfieldconservatory.org.
