Police search for chase suspect in Lombard

July 10, 2012 (LOMBARD, Ill.)

Officers from several police departments are engaged in an intense ground search for the suspect in Lombard, where he left his car.

It is not known whether the suspect is armed and dangerous, but residents are being told to be cautious.

Chopper7HD spotted officers canvassing the area near Route 53 and St. Charles Road on foot.

Authorities say the chase started around 12 a.m. Tuesday in Wood Dale, where the suspect fled in his car after being chased for allegedly committing a burglary. According to police, the suspect ditched the car in Lombard and ran away into a residential community.

A police helicopter also aided in the search Tuesday morning, but one police chief said it had been taken down because the area is too wooded for the helicopter to help.

"The suspect that was driving the vehicle fled on foot. We brought in a number of officers from surrounding jurisdictions to help us set up a perimeter. We did a canine search and a bloodhound search of the area, looking for the individual, as well as officers from our town and other jurisdictions helped block the neighborhood, looking for the subject," said Lombard Police Deputy Chief Pat Rollins.

Authorities have released a vague description of the suspect, saying he is an African-American man in his 30s about 6 ft. 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 250 lbs.

Police say the suspect on the run intially was with another suspect, but Wood Dale police caught that person.
