300 AC units given away in Thornton Township

Relief from this summer's heat is on the way for hundreds of low-income people in south suburban Thornton Township.

Thanks to a state grant and the township, 300 hundred air conditioners will be given to people who don't have any. They'll be installed in the next two to three weeks.

"With the extreme heat that has occurred over the last several months, we know that there are a lot of people out there that don't have air conditioning, we'd like to be able to help them," said

Once the summer is over, the township plans to provide window installation to help lower heating bills during the winter.
