The DuPage County Health Department is warning its residents that the current weather conditions are putting them at a higher risk for West Nile virus.

Officials report that the dry conditions have eliminated so-called "floodwater mosquitoes" which are very rarely infected with the virus -- but the extreme heat is producing more culex mosquitoes. Those are the primary carriers of West Nile Virus, which breed in storm drains and similar locations.
