Illinois-native Kelci Bryant and partner Abby Johnston won the silver medal in women's 3-meter synchronized springboard at the 2012 Olympics in London on Sunday.

This is the first US women's diving medal since the 2000 Sydney Games.

Bryant, 23, grew up in the town of Chatham in central Illinois. According to the Olympic website, during the 2008 games, the two-time Olympian and then-partner Ariel Rittenhouse placed fourth in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event. Bryant said the defeat fueled her drive to make the 2012 Olympic team and earn a medal.
