Congressmen want harbor to be named for Burroughs

July 30, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Members of Chicago's arts community joined representatives Danny Davis and Bobby Rush at 31st Street Harbor Monday.

They are calling for the harbor to be named after the late Dr. Margaret Burroughs, who was a park district board member and co-founder of Chicago's DuSable Arts Museum.

"Dr. Burroughs who was a powerful advocate for African American art, culture and history deserves this level of recognition," Rep. Rush said.

Rush and Davis have sent a formal request for the name change to the president of the parks district board.

The board is expected to vote on the request August 8th.
