Pedestrian struck on Northwest Side, driver strikes pole fleeing scene

Police say a driver who fled the scene after striking a pedestrian crashed his car into a light pole on the Northwest Side.

The pedestrian was struck by the car at the intersection of Wabansia and Narragansett on the city's Northwest Side around 6 a.m. Thursday. His or her condition is not known.

The driver of the car sped off, but the vehicle ended up crashing into a light pole at Cortland and Harlem. Officials have not said if the driver was taken into custody.
