August 12, 2012 (MANILLA, Philippines)

Most deaths were from drowning and landslides.

The torrential rainfall affected two million people and people are trying to cope with substantial property damage.

August is generally the wettest month of the year and days of rain drenched the area.

Forecasters say it could take weeks for the waters to drain from the low-lying areas affected.
