The Black Star Project expected the Million Father March to produce a record turn-out for the first day of school in Chicago.

Tuesday morning, fathers, grandfathers and other significant male caregivers escorted children to school, encouraging learning and high academic achievement. Up to 25,000 were expected to participate.

The back-to-school event started in Chicago nine years ago. Organizers say it is now an international movement as well.
