Police involved in chase, shooting on South Side

Chicago police say they chased and shot a man on the South Side after he pointed a gun at them twice early Friday.

Police say around 1:45 a.m. they saw a van driving down 75th street with its passenger door open. They say they followed the van and a man got out and pointed a gun at police, which led to a foot chase.

Officers say they confronted the suspect in an alley on 75th Street between Michigan and Wabash, where the suspect again pointed the gun at police, a police statement says.

Police say the shot and injured the man and recovered a weapon He was taken to a hospital.
