Car Seat Mistakes: 1 in 5 parents don't read car seat instructions, survey says

September 18, 2012 (WASHINGTON)

A survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found 20 percent of parents admitted they don't read instruction manuals for installing safety seats.

The administration says the biggest mistakes were related to using the wrong slots for seat belts or leaving the seats too loose.

The survey also found about 90 percent of parents were confident their children were buckled in safely.

Traffic crashes are the No. 1 killer of children age 1 to 12.
