The fire broke out just after five o'clock in the 3100 block of West Franklin Boulevard in Garfield Park. It was out a short time later.
Fire officials say the fire appeared to have started in the room where 3-month-old Miracle Hooks was found.
There were smoke detectors in the building, but firefighters have not determined if they were working.
More than 30 people were displaced.
