Got high blood pressure? Get some sleep

September 21, 2012

A study from the American Heart Association finds poor sleep quality can hurt the effectiveness of high blood pressure drugs. In the study, those with poor sleep quality --6 hours or less-- were twice as likely to have what's called resistant hypertension. Also, it found women were more likely to have poor sleep quality.

Authors conclude those with high blood pressure are more likely to have sleep problems and insomnia is associated with that stubborn resistant hypertension.
