A southwest suburban man was sentenced Wednesday to 85 years in prison for shooting a 14-year-old boy who was playing video games in his home.

Twenty-four-year-old Vernon McCormick, of Lockport, was found guilty in July of the January 2011 murder.

Prosecutors say McCormick fired multiple shots into the home, thinking rival gang members were inside.

Fourteen-year-old Deonte Lesley was not in a gang. He was shot in the head and later died at a hospital.

Two other teens inside the home were wounded.
