Meningitis outbreak toll: 170 cases, 14 deaths

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has added 33 more cases, two deaths and a new state, Idaho, to an outbreak of fungal meningitis linked to steroid shots for back pain.

The medication, made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts, has been recalled.

The latest numbers from the CDC total 170 illnesses and 14 deaths.

Eleven states are affected. They are Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.
