Hundreds of birds have been found inside a home in the southwest suburb. Those birds need to be removed from the home. Some are dead. Most are not in cages.
The Aurora home is condemned. No one is allowed in or out until an air quality test is completed and conditions are safe. Test results are expected Monday.
"There is so much junk and trash in there, we can't effectively catch the birds," said Dan Ferrelli, City of Aurora.
The birds, which you can see fluttering in the window, will be rescued as soon as authorities can get inside the home.
Neighbors say the 57-year-old man who lives there alone is a private person.
"He's a very quiet man, keeps to himself, haven't really had any interaction with him at all. Haven't had any trouble with him at all," said Gene Simmons, neighbor
The investigation started Wednesday, when a paint contractor saw the dead bird inside.
Authorities executed a search warrant Friday morning. They say the homeowner is cooperating with investigators.
"He feels terrible that this is happening. Very, very concerned for the birds," said Ferrelli.
"To see all this mess that's over here, it's a little alarming. Nobody knows what's going on exactly," said Alexander Keith, neighborhood visitor. "I don't know where he fell off, but a little look at yourself will never hurt anybody."
