Huge flames were said to be shooting out of the building when firefighters arrived at the True Temple of Apostolic Faith Church in the Garfield Park neighborhood.
The church is located in the 3800-block of West Madison Street.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
Fire officials were expected to give an update later Monday on the extent of the damage.
