Defense attorneys rested Monday in a case stemming from former Chicago police officer Anthony Abbate's beating of a female bartender.

Karolina Obrycka sued the city for covering up the 2007 attack. Her lawyers claim that the police department's unofficial "code of silence" kept Abbate from being disciplined.

Abbate was found guilty but sentenced to probation after a video of the beating went public.

Closing arguments in the case are expected to begin Tuesday.
