Mayor Emanuel: Crime-fighting strategy is making progress

November 26, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The effort was launched in April and has led to the closing of 34 businesses that were known conduits for criminal activity.

The Mayor's Office is working with neighborhood and religious leaders as well as elected officials to close questionable businesses, according to a press release.

"The message is clear that if you are a business that sells to minors or assists criminals, or you let your vacant property become a base for gang members, we will shut you down and help neighbors reclaim their communities," Emanuel said in a press release.
