Could getting more sleep increase your tolerance for pain?

December 3, 2012

Getting more sleep improves daytime alertness and reduces pain sensitivity in healthy adults.

In the study scientists took mildly sleep-deprived participants and extended their sleep to 10 hours per night.

The length of time they were able to keep their fingers on a heat source increased by 25 percent.

The study is said to be the first of its kind to show that extended sleep reduces pain sensitivity.
