A man has been charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly shooting an off-duty Chicago police officer on the Southwest Side.

Investigators say Mario Froylan tried to rob the officer on Monday as he was taking his son out of a car seat.

The officer was hit three times in the wrist and chest.

The child was not hurt.

Police say Froylan is a 27-year-old gang member.
