Labor protests on the Near North Side ended in nearly two dozen arrests on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Hundreds demonstrated with the "Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago" to call for higher wages.

The union represents low-wage food and retail workers.

Organizers said that higher wages could put $179 million into Chicago's economy.

The union formed in November and was involved with the landmark Walmart strike on Black Friday.
