Report: Fewer beat police officers on Chicago streets

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel campaigned on a promise to bring more police officers onto the beat, but now, a new analysis says that has not happened.

A Chicago Sun-Times analysis finds there are fewer beat officers working in patrol districts across the city than there were in previous years.

The reason is, according to the newspaper, for every new officer hired and assigned to work a beat in the last two years, six officers have retired.
