Walking can help women reduce stroke risk

January 4, 2013

A study in the medical journal 'Stroke' found that women who did this regularly had a 43-percent reduction in stroke risk compared to inactive women.

Women who walked briskly also had a lower risk than those who cycled or other high intensity workouts for a short amount of time.

There was no reduction seen for men.

The authors of the study said past research has also linked physical activity to fewer strokes. Strokes can be caused by a buildup of plaque in arteries or ruptured blood vessels.
