Supporters urging Illinois same-sex marriage

A bill to allow same-sex marriages in Illinois appears to be stalled for now but supporters are urging lawmakers and voters to take action.

At a rally Saturday outside the Thompson Center, speakers said it's a matter of fairness and equality. Some urged voters to call their state lawmakers and ask them to approve a marriage equality law.

Civil unions are legal in Illinois. Some say that's a positive step, but it's not enough.

If Illinois approves same sex marriages it would become the tenth state to do so.
