E2 nightclub stampede legal battle continues

The City of Chicago is asking the Illinois Supreme Court to reinstate the convictions of the two owners of the shuttered E2 nightclub.

Calvin Jollins and Dwain Kyles were found guilty in 2009 of violating a housing order to close the club's mezzanine level.

21 people were killed in a stamped at the former South Side club in 2003.

A state appellate court tossed the convictions and jail sentences in 2011, citing the language in the order was too ambiguous.

City attorneys argued Wednesday in Springfield that the appellate court's decision can't be made on broad basis.

A decision from the supreme court could be weeks to several months away.
