Aaron Schock considering 2014 gubernatorial run

Republican Congressman Aaron Schock is thinking about running for governor because Illinois is "in a world of hurt", he said.

Schock said he hopes few Republicans will run because "the less bloodletting, the better."

The other Republicans who have expressed interest in running include State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and state senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard.

It's time for a change of leadership, Schock said in Chicago Thursday.

"Quite frankly, I can continue to do a good job out in Washington, DC," he said. "We can deal with entitlement reform; we can deal with our debt. We can fix the problems nationally but if we keep the same yahoos in Springfield, my constituents will never see the fruits of my labor in DC."

The primary race for governor will take place in spring 2014.
