Activists protest possible school closings in Pilsen

Dozens of parents and community members are protesting the possible closing or privatizing of nearly 200 schools in minority communities, four of them in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The closings are necessary because they have too many buildings with too few students, forcing them to stretch their resources thin, according to Chicago Public Schools.

But the Board of Education is letting school representatives make their case about why their schools should remain open before any recommendations are made about possible closings.
