Cattlemen worried if prices go up, beef will be 'luxury item'

The Iowa Cattlemen's Association said beef producers are concerned that their products are becoming luxury items that many consumers cannot afford.

Beef prices are expected to rise as much as 10-percent by this summer. Rising corn and feed prices have forced farmers to thin their herds. That's driven up demand for beef and forced beef price increases.

Overall, retail beef prices have gone up by an average of $1 a year since 2007.
