A local soldier got a hero's welcome as he returned home from his tour in Afghanistan.

Specialist Aristeo Morales was back home night in Humboldt Park Saturday following a nine-month tour of duty.

The Warriors Watch Riders motorcycle group helped welcome home Morales, along with his family and friends.

He said he always wanted to be an infantryman.

"Then I went to Afghanistan and I fell in love with it. Not everyone can do, but I do enjoy doing it. It's a job that gives you experiences after experiences. I don't regret it," he said.

"Nine months of torture, but finally he's home, he's safe and that's all that matters," his mother Maria Bonet said.

Morales wants to become a police officer once he fulfills his military duty.

He'll be home for three weeks before he returns to Fort Riley in Kansas.
