Infant used as shield by father, cops say

April 22, 2013 (ESTACADA, Ore.)

They were trying to arrest Raleigh Reynolds Saturday in connection with a burglary. They say he jumped a fence and hid in his sister's house next door. When Reynolds finally came outside, sheriff's deputies say he was holding up his 7-month-old son.

"He was holding it to shield himself from our firearms or, you know - from trying to be taken into custody. It was scary. It was very scary," said Deputy Daniel Moyer, Clackamas County, Ore., sheriff's office.

Reynolds eventually surrendered and was arrested. He is charged with burglary, endangering the welfare of a minor and resisting arrest. The baby was not hurt.

Police say Reynolds was also arrested in February after he accidentally dialed 911 during a drug deal.
