Commission: Former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge involved in alleged prisoner torture

May 15, 2013 (CHICAGO)

David Thomas is the executive director of the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission.

He tells ABC7 the seven cases will be referred to the chief judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

After that they'll be assigned to judges at the Criminal Courts Building.

They will have to consider the commission's recommendations and take some type of action.

"This commission is I think an important attempt by the State of Illinois to remedy the injustice," said Thomas.

Burge was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice for lying in a civil case about the torture allegations.
