Frozen kefir: Think yogurt, but tangier and with more active cultures

May 24, 2013 (CHICAGO)

As summer draws closer, many of us will be seeking out cool treats like ice cream and gelato. Frozen kefir is another option.

Lifeway Foods is based in Morton Grove and the company has been serving the Russian and Turkish population for years with its kefir: think yogurt, but with more active cultures and a little tangier.

The company has been ramping up over the past few summers with its frozen line, served at several Starfruits around town. And today, the company's CEO, Julie Smolyanski joins me to talk about frozen kefir.
