A Chicago man accused of cyber attacks on corporations and government agencies worldwide has pleaded guilty to hacking charges.

Prosecutors say Jeremy Hammond participated in cyber attacks loosely organized by worldwide hacking group Anonymous.

The U.S. Senate was among the targets.

Prosecutors say the hackers stole confidential information, defaced websites and temporarily put some companies out of business.

Authorities say those crimes affected more than 1 million people.
