Guns confiscated in west suburban St. Charles will now be resold to raise money for the police department.

On Monday night, the city council in St. Charles voted in favor of the controversial measure to sell about 20 firearms to two licensed dealers.

Officials say the police department will receive more than $6,000 in credit for future equipment purchases.

Critics say guns confiscated from criminals should be destroyed.
