Drivers caught littering from their car windows could face a fine of $1,500 and have their vehicles impounded under a proposal presented at Wednesday's Chicago City Council meeting.

21st Ward Alderman Howard Brookins sponsored the proposal. He says it's an attempt to get the attention of chronic litterers who make a mess of city streets and sidewalks.

Current fines for littering range between $50-200. The alderman's proposal is being referred to a committee for a hearing.
