West Side shootout injures 2, traps ambulance in crossfire

Just after 12 a.m. Saturday, the ambulance was heading westbound in the 3400-block of West Lake Street near the CTA Green Line train tracks and Garfield Park when paramedics noticed some people crouching down.

Chicago Fire Department officals say when the paramedics heard gunshots, they realized they were approaching crossfire. So, they ducked and called police.

The shooting left one person shot in the head and another in the chest. Both were taken to the hospital.

The paramedics who saw the shooting helped transport the injured

No paramedics were hurt, and no bullets hit the ambulance.
