DIY Summer Beauty Products

July 6, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Anja Harris, LUSH Water Tower , came into our ABC7 studio to show us recipes to whip up hair and body treatments with fresh fruits and veggies. The products she made were special DIY beauty treatments from a LUSH founder Helen Ambrosen.

Anja's Recipes:

A. Hair Shine Treatment
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon apple juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Directions:
Mix the two juices.

Usage:
After shampooing and conditioning, apply to hair, leave on for a minute and rinse.

B. Sea Salt Body Scrub
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of fine sea salt
Olive oil

Directions:
Take 2 tablespoons of fine sea salt and mix to a paste with a heavy oil such as olive oil.
This is deeply nourishing for the skin.

Usage:
Wet the skin and apply to the backs of arms, legs and anywhere where the skin is rough.
Don't use on the décolleté area.
Rinse off the skin.

C. Foot Mask
Ingredients:
Clove bud
Cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon of glycerin
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 tablespoons of clay (can find at whole foods or health food stores)
2 tablespoons of fine sea salt

Directions:
- Place clove bud into cup.
- Crumble in cinnamon stick and add boiling water.
- Leave to infuse for 30 minutes.
- Sieve to remove the clove bud and crumbled cinnamon stick.
- Take 6 tablespoons of the infusion and mix with 1 tablespoon of glycerin, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of clay and mix into a paste.
- Lastly, add 2 tablespoons of fine sea salt to exfoliate.
- Add more glycerin if the mixture is too stiff or more salt if more exfoliation is needed.
- Have a bowl of warm water and towel ready for application.

Usage:
Apply to feet, cover with cling-wrap and relax for 5-10 minutes.
Wet feet and massage the mask in to areas of hard skin and then remove.
If you have open cracks on your feet, leave out the sea salt.
Massage a little bit of olive oil on to the toe nails and to areas of hard skin on the feet.
The cloves are antibacterial and will help to control odor if used regularly.
