A memorial took place in north suburban Zion. Rose grew up in Lake County. He later moved to Arizona and became part of an elite firefighting team, the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Many firefighters from the Chicago area paid their respects on Thursday night.
One man said it was an emotional service that celebrated Rose's life and his service to others.
