Emergency crews responded to an extra-alarm fire just before 12 a.m. Saturday in suburban South Holland.

A two-story building on Van Dam Road, with living units at the top and offices on the bottom, caught fire. Flames went through the roof and spread so quickly that firefighters called a second alarm to get more crews.

The fire burned for approximately four hours before firefighters were able to extinguish it.

The building was not occupied. No one was hurt.

There was no immediate work on what sparked the fire.
