The last Komen 3-Day for the Cure in Chicago begins Friday morning. The organization is canceling its signature fundraising event here and six other cities next year. The Komen organization says cites declining participation as the reason for the cancellation. This slashes the number of the fundraising events by half.
The announcement comes after Komen experienced intense backlash after news became public of its decision to stop giving grants to Planned Parenthood for breast screenings.
A statement from the Komen 3-Day says in part, "The difficult decision to exit Chicago was not made lightly, as this bold and empowering event has touched the lives of thousands of participants"
