His sister and investigators from the DuPage County Sheriff's Department are checking wooded areas in search of new clues.
Spira disappeared under mysterious circumstances on February 23, 2007.
He was last seen by his business partner in unincorporated West Chicago.
"The reason that I'm doing this search now, is because I have new information that I can't reveal, but that to me is significant enough to make me want to do this," said Stephanie McNeil, Spira's sister.
Spira's sister says another search is planned for Saturday at Roosevelt Road and County Farm Road.
