DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin announced Friday he selected John Zediker to represent the county on the commuter rail agency's board.
Five of Metra's 11 board members resigned after controversy erupted over a $718,000 buyout of the agency's former CEO and allegations of improper dealings with politicians.
Zediker is a former DuPage County board member who also served as director of transportation, engineering and development for the city of Naperville. He's currently CEO for a design firm that specializes in civil engineering and planning.
Cronin says Zediker understands commuters' needs and knows what's needed to ensure timely, safe travel.
Zediker's appointment must be approved by the full DuPage County board, which will meet Tuesday.
