Chicago Police Department to hold open house for prospective cops

September 6, 2013 (CHICAGO)

It will take place at the Police Academy on West Jackson. The department is currently taking applications. Superintendent Garry Mccarthy says they've received 20,000 far. He'd like to get that up to 30,000.

And he talked about the kind of candidates he's looking for.

"We want the best and the brightest, smartest, hardworking and we also want to make sure we reflect the demographics of the community," said Supt. Garry McCarthy.

The department has lowered the age for applying to 18 years old. The deadline to apply is September 16.
